On 7th February 2010, spring is evident in Zuidperpark Hague. A Chinese New Year tea party was held here by Education Office of Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands. Director Mr. Luo Ping, Mr. Zhang Xiaodong, Chinese director of Confucius Institute the Hague Ms. Zhou Jiajuan and some state-funded students studying in the Netherlands over 200 in total attended the party to celebrate the coming of Chinese new year.
Mr. Luo Ping expressed his warm wishes and sincere condolences to all state-funded students studying in the Netherlands on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands, the Ambassador Mr. Zhang Jun and his wife. He said the past year is a year that arouses all overseas students’ pride: the 60th birthday opened a new page of Chinese nation’s renewal, 60 years’ ups and downs and broad mindedness. Under the background of global financial crisis, China stands in the front of world stage depending her economic development and responsibility. He also praised the state-funded students for their living up to people’s hopes and bearing in mind motherland and their missions: not only doing good research but actively participate in such serial activities as “Changes of China in my eyes” picture exhibition and “protesting the Dalai Lama's visit to Holland”.
On some specific issues like improving safety awareness and abiding by relevant rules regarding state-funded students Mr. Zhang Xiaodong patiently answered students’ questions in detail. He said, “This is not only a tea party, but a party for us to exchange new year greetings. Here the education office wishes you all a happy new year! This is also a meeting, which helps us increase awareness of discipline, safety and over situation.” Chinese director of Confucius Institute the Hague Ms. Zhou Jiajuan stressed the importance of spreading Chinese culture to the development of China. Then Yang Peng, chairman of the state-funded students union, and several student representatives delivered speeches, which resonated deeply in the audiences.
Between and after the speeches, students played kinds of games and presented some traditional Chinese programs – humorous performance, melodious traditional Chinese music, pleasant singing and cheers and laughter woven together sent warmth of our motherland to overseas students thousands of miles away. Especially, Ms. Zhou’s elegant singing of “My hometown is Beijing” with rich flavour of Beijing opera pushed the party to its climax. In the passionate chorus of “Ode to the motherland”, the party ended successfully.
