The Second Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School in the Netherlands and The Third “Chinese

Plan for Preliminary in the Netherlands

On 30th May 2009, The First Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students in the Netherlands and the Second “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students was held successfully. The top 3 candidates from Hilversum gymnasium accessed to semi-final and final of the S Second “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students as representatives of all high school students in the Netherlands, which was held in Chongqing China. In about one month’s time, they experienced the charm of Chinese culture, thus having a better understanding of it.
In 2010, in order to provide more chances for Dutch youth to experience Chinese culture and display their Chinese capacity, and stimulate them to further study Chinese and learn more about Chinese culture, Chinese embassy in the Netherlands and Confucius Institue The Hague Leiden University successively hold the Second Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students in the Netherlands and the Third “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students, with the theme being “Happy Chinese, Healthy Growing”.
  
I. Time: 26th June 2010 (Temporarily 10:00 – 17:00; the time can be adjusted according to the number of candidates.)
 
II. Site: Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands
 
III. Candidates: 15-20 years old, high school students with Dutch nationality who have learned Chinese for some time.
Chinese cultural techniques – Chinese songs, music, dancing, quyi (Chinese folk art forms, including ballad singing, story telling, comic dialogues, clapper talks, cross talks, etc.), acrobatics, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting, martial arts, etc.
Comprehensive learning capability – through training, candidates’ comprehensive learning capability in Chinese language and culture and skills in putting them into practice will be improved.
V. Competition Forms and Rules
1Grouping & Registration Rules
The way of grouping this time is different from that last time: candidates can sign up for the competition in their school or independently. After the deadline, the committee will group them according to their conditions. Those who meet the requirements (with Dutch nationality, born and growing in the Netherlands, studying in a high school in the Netherlands, mother tongue not Chinese) will be arranged in Group A; the rest will be Group B. The forms and contents of the competition are the same for candidates in both groups and they are scored and ranked within their group respectively. Those who have been to China for semi-final and final last year can still enter for the competition, but in principle, they will not be recommended to China this year.
2. Forms of Competition
The competition contains paper test, lecture and talent show. Candidates will sit for the paper test together; for the latter two parts candidates will be scored individually by the judges. All questions in the paper test are multiple choice questions (see Attachment 1); time for lecture and talent show should be no more than 3 minutes. The content of the lecture should be created by candidates themselves and should be sent to the appointed email box before the deadline; otherwise they will be disqualified. 
 
VI. Prizes
Prizes are set respectively for Group A and Group B. There are 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes and several consolation prizes in Group A, and 2 first prizes, 5 second prizes and several consolation prizes in Group B. The first prize winners of Group A will be recommended to participate in the semi-final and final of the Third “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students, which will be held during the last 20 days of October in Chongqing China (for details please visit http://www.chinese.cn/bridge/S03/article/2010-03/25/content_119739.htm). If approved by Hanban China, their round-trip international travel expenses and accommodation and transportation costs during their stay in China will be afforded by Hanban. Besides, they will be awarded the 2011 Confucius Institute Scholarship to study for one semester in China (Round-trip international travel expenses need to be afforded by the students.). First prize winners of Group B will visit China to watch the competition and their round-trip international travel expenses and accommodation and transportation costs during their stay in China will also be afforded by Hanban.
VII. Ways of Entering for the Competition and the Visit to China
1. Please visit the official website and download “Entry Form for the Second Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students in the Netherlands and the Third “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students (Netherlands Preliminary Area) (see Attachment 2)”. For those who enter for the competition through their school, the school should choose a teacher as team leader who assumes of the work of entering for competition and contact.
2. The competition welcomes parents of candidates and others who are interested in Chinese to watch the competition. Please enter for the watching in unit of school, and download “Entry Form for Watching the Second Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students in the Netherlands and the Third “Chinese Bridge” World Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students (Netherlands Preliminary Area) (see Attachment 3)” from the official website of the competition. The number of spectators of from each school will be confirmed with the school according to the total number entering for the watching.
Please send the Entry Form to 2010hanyuqiao.nl@gmail.com before 0:00 6th June 2010. Any Entry Form after that time will not be processed.
