The Confucius Institute is an international, non-profit organization for the advancement of knowledge and understanding about Chinese language and culture around the world. Through a variety of teaching methods and activities we aim to enhance understanding of Chinese culture. Over 500 Confucius Institutes have been established to date throughout the world.

The Confucius Institute at Leiden University (CILU) was established through a partnership of Leiden University and Shandong University. Based on the Leiden University humanities campus, the CILU has an ideal location. Working with Dutch institutions and organizations, businesses, and individuals, we offer a wide range of language and culture courses and organize and sponsore various cultural activities and academic exchange.

CILU conducts its work on four platforms:

-      cultural exchange

-      the provision of general information, China-related books, and educational materials

-      language teaching and teacher training

-      language examination.

We welcome suggestions for new activities that will contribute to toward CILU’s sustainable development and the realization of its mission.
